Lessons I've Learned As A Newbie Blogger

The last time I posted on this blog was way back June, 2009.  I started blogging with the hope that I could earn a living out of it.   As it turns out, it wasn't that easy. The highest amount I earned so far from the internet was $5. Yes, you read it right, FIVE DOLLARS.  I got it from a Facebook app called Paypal Wishlist.

The year is 2010 and it promises to be a great year.  I will make it my year.   That being said, let me share to you the top 10 lessons I've learned about starting a blog:

1. Its not easy  - Anybody can do it, yes.  But the discipline to blog on a schedule is a discipline learned over time.  My goal with this blog is to eventually make a living out of it.  I don't want to be an employee anymore. 
2. What you learn, apply it right away - Don't waste time worrying about if what you've learned would work or not.  The sooner you realize that what you've learned does not work for you, the sooner you could be back on the road learning something new that might eventually work for you.
3.  There are a lot of free resources out there - Don't be tempted to buy ebooks or programs that promise you a faster route to success.  Often times, it's all outdated articles or worse, dupes you into spending more money. Check out these sites:
   
• www.JohnChow.com - Download his famous Make Money Online Ebook.  It's free!
• www.ThirtyDayChallenge - I recommend this to all newbie bloggers.  It's easy to understand.  And it teaches enough basics to help you discover advanced topics on your own. If you don't have a fast connection, I recommend that you download the videos first before viewing them at a later and more convenient time.
• www.Squidoo.com / HubPages.com - There a lot of free articles here that would support everything you've learned on the Thirty Day Challenge.  Check out this article here.
4. Don't over research - Avoid analysis paralysis.  This is as bad as procrastinating since it forces you to sit down and waste time over analyzing what you've learned.  I'm guilty of this.  I could have written several articles last year if it weren't for my over analyzing stuff.  Experience is and always will be the best teacher.
5. Participate in Social Media - Facebook is great.  But Twitter is more powerful especially if you have a business.  Check out this article about leveraging Twitter for business.  Social Media is the buzzword nowadays.  It's a relatively new phenomena but carries a lot of potential.  It's no longer an emerging trend.  My advice is to read up on the subject.  Check out this video from Erik Qualman, author of Socialnomics.
